Seven Family Members Perish as Car Plunges into Water-Filled Underpass in Jaipur

A tragic accident occurred on Jaipur’s Ring Road early Sunday morning, claiming the lives of seven family members. The victims, returning from Haridwar after performing the last rites of a relative, were in a car that lost control and fell into a water-filled underpass. The accident took place near Prahladpura in the Shivdaspura police station area. According to police reports, the car was speeding and possibly driven drowsily when it crashed into a divider, skidded through a 20-foot-wide passage, and plunged 16 feet into a water-filled underpass. The submerged vehicle was discovered around 12:30 PM on Sunday by passersby, who alerted the authorities. Rescue teams retrieved the car and the bodies using a crane.

• Gajraj (6), Rohit’s son

The family had left Jaipur on September 12 in Ram Raj’s taxi for Haridwar to immerse the ashes of Ashok’s father, Gopal Lal Vaishnav, who passed away on September 8.

Police suspect that the accident was caused by overspeeding and driver fatigue. Shivdaspura SHO Surendra Saini confirmed that the underpass was under construction, and the area had been less frequented in recent days, which may have delayed the discovery of the incident. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed condolences and announced financial aid through the CM Ayushman Health Scheme and Relief Fund for the bereaved family.
