On 17th September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 75th birthday. The day was marked by a wave of greetings from political leaders, citizens, and global figures. Alongside the tributes, the BJP kicked off a nationwide campaign called “Sewa Pakhwada,” a fortnight of public service activities. In cities large and small, the initiative aims to combine celebration with welfare, outreach, and community engagement.
“Sewa Pakhwada” refers to fourteen days of service-oriented programmes running from Modi’s birthday till the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. It includes health camps, cleanliness drives, free check-ups, blood donation camps, exhibitions, and promotion of local and Swadeshi products. The idea is to link public service and development work with the symbolic value of the milestone birthday.
In Delhi, officials and party workers donated blood at public camps, while projects have been announced in infrastructure and welfare domains. In Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar, welfare schemes for women, children, and tribal populations are being launched. Uttar Pradesh is seeing cleanliness drives, cultural programmes, and exhibitions. In many smaller cities, local implementation means involvement of municipal bodies, neighbourhood groups, and community volunteers.
Turning 75 is a milestone, often viewed in political, cultural, and personal terms. For Modi, this birthday has become more than a personal event: it is an opportunity for political narrative, for reinforcing service towards the common good. The campaigns under “Sewa Pakhwada” attempt to balance symbolic celebration with visible acts of outreach.
Wishes have come from all political quarters, from presidents and governors to common citizens. Many see the day as both a celebration of a political career and a reminder of promises made in terms of social welfare. In Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, people are observing the service activities with interest—some appreciate the work on the ground; others question if the outreach will make a lasting impact beyond the campaign window.
While the schedule of service works is ambitious, challenges loom. Ensuring quality, avoiding duplication, mobilising resources, maintaining transparency, and handling logistical issues are real tests, especially in cities with limited administrative capacity. Measuring the long-term effect of such initiatives is harder than launching them.
PM Modi’s 75th birthday has become a moment for the BJP to combine celebration with social service. “Sewa Pakhwada” may offer meaningful public benefits, especially in smaller cities where service gaps are often visible. But what matters most will be consistency, inclusion, and follow-through. If the fortnight leads to sustainable change, it might show that symbolic dates can set off lasting action.
