Nagpur Police Launch ‘Garud Drishti’ to Enhance Digital Surveillance and Public Safety

In a bold step towards smarter policing, the Nagpur City Police have launched ‘Garud Drishti’, a cutting-edge social media monitoring system designed to track online threats and prevent cybercrime in real time.

The initiative aims to combat the rising misuse of digital platforms for spreading misinformation, inciting violence, and coordinating criminal activities.

What is ‘Garud Drishti’?

‘Garud Drishti’ is an AI-powered system that keeps an eagle eye on social media content across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and X. It flags suspicious activity based on specific keywords, hashtags, and visual content — making it a digital guardian for the city.

Key Features of the System

• Real-Time Monitoring
  Tracks posts related to violence, crime, terrorism, or public unrest and alerts authorities instantly.
• AI-Based Image Recognition
  Detects weapons or violent visuals, even if there’s no text — helping identify threats more proactively.
• Content Categorization
  Classifies posts based on political, religious, criminal, or VIP-sensitive content, and shares daily alerts with police stations.
• Facial Recognition
  Uses advanced AI to match faces from public posts to police databases, assisting in identifying suspects or missing persons.
• Legal-Ready Data
  Built to comply with Indian cyber laws so that flagged content and evidence can stand up in court if needed.

Boosting the Cyber Infrastructure

Along with Garud Drishti, Nagpur Police also inaugurated a modern cyber lab equipped with:

• Call Detail Record (CDR) Tools for mapping call networks and tracking locations
• Mobile Data Recovery Software to pull information from devices during investigations
• Malware Detection Tools to examine compromised devices

The system was developed in collaboration with local tech experts and fine-tuned with input from the cybercrime department after successful pilot testing.
