A preliminary investigation into the Andhra Pradesh bus fire tragedy has revealed that a two-wheeler was dragged for nearly 200 metres by a sleeper coach before the vehicle caught fire. The accident, which led to multiple casualties and severe injuries, is being described as one of the most tragic road mishaps in recent months.
The report suggests that the collision occurred when the bike suddenly came in front of the bus on the highway. The impact caused the motorcycle to get trapped underneath the vehicle, leading to sparks that ignited a fuel spill. Within moments, flames spread rapidly, engulfing the front portion of the sleeper coach and trapping several passengers inside.
Eyewitnesses recounted chaotic scenes as locals rushed to rescue passengers through the rear exit while firefighters battled to control the blaze. Many passengers suffered burns and smoke inhalation before emergency services arrived. The intensity of the fire made rescue operations difficult, as the entire bus was consumed within minutes.
Officials said that both the bus driver and the conductor were taken into custody for questioning, as authorities probe whether negligence or speeding played a role. Preliminary findings indicate that the bus might have been travelling above the permitted limit at the time of the collision. Investigators are also checking if the vehicle’s fire safety measures were in place and functional.
The incident has reignited concerns over highway safety and maintenance standards, particularly for long-distance buses operating across Andhra Pradesh. Road safety experts have urged the government to enforce stricter regulations for night travel and periodic safety inspections of passenger vehicles.
Families of the victims are demanding accountability and support from the authorities, while the government has promised financial aid and a detailed inquiry into the cause of the fire. The tragedy stands as a grim reminder of how a single moment of carelessness on the road can lead to irreversible loss.
