AAP and BJP Clash Over Artificial Yamuna Ponds Ahead of Chhath Puja in Delhi

The political rivalry between AAP and BJP has intensified once again, this time over preparations for Chhath Puja in Delhi. The debate centers on the artificial ponds being created along the Yamuna riverbanks for devotees, with both parties accusing each other of mismanagement and political theatrics.

The Aam Aadmi Party claims that its government is ensuring safe and accessible ghats for lakhs of devotees who will perform rituals during Chhath. Officials say that due to pollution and restrictions around the Yamuna, the artificial ponds are a necessary arrangement to prevent contamination and maintain public safety. AAP leaders argue that the Delhi government is doing its best to manage the festival smoothly under environmental constraints.

On the other hand, the BJP has slammed the AAP administration, alleging that the ponds are poorly constructed and pose health risks. Party representatives claim that the move is more about optics than genuine concern for devotees. BJP leaders have accused the Delhi government of ignoring real issues like cleanliness, safety, and logistics, while focusing on photo opportunities.

The Delhi civic agencies have been directed to monitor water quality and crowd control during the festival days. Local residents have expressed mixed reactions—some appreciating the effort to provide organized spaces for worship, while others worry about water stagnation and hygiene problems near residential areas.

Every year, Chhath Puja sees large gatherings of devotees from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand living in Delhi. With environmental restrictions limiting access to the Yamuna, artificial ponds have become the practical alternative. However, the recurring political blame game between AAP and BJP has overshadowed the community’s real concerns—safety, cleanliness, and faith.

As Chhath approaches, the focus now shifts from politics to preparation. For Delhi’s devotees, the hope remains that the arrangements—no matter who takes credit—allow them to celebrate the festival peacefully and safely.
