Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi has accused the state government of “state-sponsored murder” following the shocking case of an HIV-infected blood transfusion in Deoghar. The incident, which led to outrage across the state, has sparked political debate over negligence and accountability in Jharkhand’s healthcare system.
According to reports, an eight-year-old thalassemia patient was allegedly given HIV-positive blood at a government-run hospital in Deoghar. The revelation has triggered anger among locals and raised questions about the functioning of blood banks and medical supervision in state hospitals. Marandi criticized the government, stating that such lapses show complete administrative failure and disregard for human life.
He demanded a high-level probe into the incident and immediate action against officials responsible for the error. Marandi further alleged that the incident reflects deep-rooted negligence in Jharkhand’s public health system, where basic safety checks are being ignored. He urged Chief Minister Champai Soren to take moral responsibility and ensure justice for the affected family.
Meanwhile, health officials have initiated an internal inquiry to determine how the infected blood passed through testing and screening protocols. The state health department has also ordered all blood banks to review their safety procedures to prevent similar tragedies.
The incident has reignited discussions about the quality of healthcare in smaller towns and districts, where limited infrastructure and poor oversight often lead to such lapses. Public trust in government hospitals has taken another hit, with citizens demanding strict punishment for those responsible.
As the investigation continues, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder that healthcare negligence is not just an administrative failure—it can destroy innocent lives. The people of Jharkhand now wait to see if accountability will follow or if this too will fade into political blame games.
