Delhi Braces for More Rain as Western Disturbance Approaches

Delhi experienced moderate rainfall on October 3, 2025, accompanied by warm temperatures, as a western disturbance began affecting northwest India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more intense and widespread showers in the coming days.

Current Weather Conditions

On Thursday, the national capital recorded over 15 mm of rain in areas like Ridge and Pitampura, while Safdarjung and Lodhi Road received trace amounts. The rainfall was attributed to the interaction of moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal and south-westerlies from the Arabian Sea, leading to increased humidity and discomfort.

Forecast for the Coming Days

The western disturbance is expected to bring light thunderstorms and rain to Delhi until October 5, with stronger gusty winds and moderate rainfall anticipated on October 6 and 7. Meteorologists warn that the system could cause heavy rain in the mountains of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, raising the possibility of landslides and cloudbursts. In the northern plains, including Delhi, moderate rainfall is expected.

Impact on Air Quality

The Air Quality Index (AQI) on October 2 remained moderate at 123. The upcoming rainfall may temporarily improve air quality by reducing dust and pollutants. However, increased humidity and stagnant conditions could also lead to localized pollution.

Advice for Residents

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during the rainy period. Travelers should be cautious of waterlogging and potential disruptions in transportation. It’s also advisable to monitor air quality levels, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.
