In a significant development from Himachal Pradesh, Ram Kumar Bindal, the elder brother of BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, has been arrested on charges of raping a 25-year-old woman under the pretext of providing Ayurvedic treatment. The incident, which allegedly occurred on October 7 in Solan, has stirred political controversy, with the Bharatiya Janata Party labeling the case as a “politically motivated mischievous act.”
According to police reports, the survivor approached Ram Kumar Bindal, a traditional medicine practitioner, for treatment of a long-standing ailment. During the consultation, Bindal allegedly began discussing her sexual health issues and proceeded to examine her private parts without consent. The woman claimed that he raped her under the guise of medical treatment. She managed to push him away and escaped, subsequently filing a complaint at the women’s police station on October 8.
The BJP has strongly denied the allegations, asserting that the case is politically motivated. Party spokespersons emphasized Ram Kumar Bindal’s longstanding public service and contributions to the community, suggesting that the charges are an attempt to tarnish his reputation for political gains.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under sections pertaining to rape and sexual assault by a person in authority. Forensic samples have been collected, and investigations are ongoing. The police have assured that due process will be followed to ascertain the facts.
This incident has added to the political discourse in Himachal Pradesh, with opposition parties demanding a thorough and impartial investigation. The BJP’s dismissal of the allegations as politically motivated has been met with criticism, with opponents urging the party to allow the legal process to take its course without interference.
The arrest of Ram Kumar Bindal has brought to light serious allegations that have both legal and political ramifications. As investigations continue, it remains to be seen how this case will influence the political landscape in Himachal Pradesh and the broader discourse on accountability and justice.
