Indian Sellers Cross $20 Billion in Exports via Amazon in a Decade

Indian exporters have reached a major milestone, with over $20 billion worth of goods shipped globally through Amazon’s export platform in the last ten years. This marks a significant step for small and medium businesses that have tapped into international markets without the need for large-scale infrastructure or intermediaries.

The platform, launched in 2015, has given lakhs of Indian sellers access to global buyers across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Products ranging from textiles and handicrafts to home décor and beauty essentials have found steady demand overseas, helping local entrepreneurs grow their brands internationally.

Cities beyond the metros—like Jaipur, Surat, and Coimbatore—have become key contributors to this growth, showing how digital platforms are reshaping India’s export landscape. Many small businesses from Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions have successfully leveraged e-commerce to reach customers in countries like the US, UK, and Australia, often running their operations entirely online.

Experts point out that this rise in digital exports also supports the government’s vision of boosting India’s non-traditional exports and promoting “Make in India” globally. With initiatives aimed at simplifying logistics and digital payments, more sellers are expected to join the export ecosystem in the coming years.

While challenges such as shipping costs and compliance hurdles remain, the momentum clearly indicates India’s growing competitiveness in the global e-commerce market. For small entrepreneurs across the country, the last decade has proven that a smartphone and internet connection can open doors to international trade.
