Nagpur Metro’s Solar Power Plan Gets Green Light as MERC Steps In

Nagpur Metro’s long-pending solar power initiative is finally set to move forward, thanks to a recent order by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). The directive instructs MSEDCL to remove hurdles in providing net metering, clearing the path for the metro to harness clean energy and reduce its operational costs significantly.

Solar Plan Stuck for Months
MahaMetro, which operates Nagpur Metro, had proposed to power several of its stations and facilities using rooftop solar panels. However, the project hit a roadblock due to delays in approvals from the state electricity distribution company, MSEDCL. Despite having installed solar panels across multiple sites, MahaMetro wasn’t allowed to fully utilise them due to metering and technical permission issues.
