Navratri 2025 Sees Record Sales as GST Cuts Boost Consumer Spending

Indian consumer goods and automotive companies witnessed their best Navratri sales in over a decade, fueled by recent GST reductions and improved consumer sentiment. Sales across brands grew between 25% and 100%, with Maruti Suzuki reporting double the bookings compared to last year. Electronics and appliance makers also saw strong demand, setting an optimistic tone for the upcoming Diwali season.

Automotive Sector Performance

Maruti Suzuki recorded 150,000 bookings during Navratri, a significant rise from 85,000 last year, with total enquiries exceeding 700,000. Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 60% increase in SUV sales, while Hyundai reported strong demand for Creta and Venue models. Small cars also benefited, with bookings rising 50% for popular models.

Consumer Electronics and Appliances

Brands like Haier, LG, and Godrej Appliances experienced high double-digit growth. Haier, for example, sold out its Diwali stock of premium TVs and moved 300-350 units of 65-inch models daily. Retail chains such as Vijay Sales and Reliance Retail saw 20-25% growth, driven by large-screen TVs, smartphones, and fashion products.

Impact of GST Cuts

The government’s reduction in GST rates effective September 22 directly lowered product prices and boosted consumer confidence. Companies complemented these cuts with additional incentives, encouraging higher festive purchases, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Conclusion

Navratri 2025 marked a significant revival in consumer demand, signaling strong momentum ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali. With the combination of lower taxes and festive incentives, businesses are optimistic about sustaining growth through the remaining festive season.
