Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 Arrives: Android 16, Super Island and Bigger Ecosystem Play

Xiaomi has rolled out HyperOS 3, its latest Android skin based on Android 16, starting with a beta launch in China and plans for a broader global release. This update stands out with a visual overhaul, AI enhancements, and deeper integration across everything from phones and tablets to smart appliances and connected cars. It’s a strategic push toward a more unified smart ecosystem.

HyperOS 3 uses Android 16’s framework, delivering a smoother interface, upgraded notifications, and tighter integration with system-wide AI features. Borrowing from Apple’s Dynamic Island concept, the new Super Island acts as an information hub at the top of the screen. It comes with AI wallpapers, customizable photo albums, enhanced translation tools, and a modern “liquid glass” design aesthetic. Xiaomi also emphasizes its “Human × Car × Home” vision, aiming to connect smartphones with cars and home devices more seamlessly.

In the first phase, top-end devices like Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro, 15 Ultra, 15S Pro, Redmi K80, K80 Pro, and tablets such as the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro and 7S Pro are eligible for the beta. However, several devices including Xiaomi 12 series, Redmi Note 12 and 13 series, POCO F5 Pro, and POCO C65 will get HyperOS 3 without Android 16 support. For nearly 30 older or mid-range devices, Android 15 will be the final stop, though they will still get some HyperOS visual improvements.

For India, and especially Tier-2 cities, the update carries practical weight. Phones are often used not just for entertainment but also for work, payments, and running small businesses. Features like smarter notifications, improved performance, and cross-device connectivity can be useful. However, those whose devices won’t see Android 16 may not experience the full benefits.

HyperOS 3 is more than just a software refresh. It signals Xiaomi’s intent to build a connected ecosystem that ties together personal devices, transport, and home living. The beta rollout is the first step, but the real test will be how well it delivers on everyday user needs across different markets.
